Job Shadowings in Atlanta
Since 2011 THG has offered its senior grade students the possibility of attractive job shadowing positions in Atlanta at local businesses as an integral part of the curriculum of its Business English Class. The program is supported by both multinational enterprises and local middle-sized companies from diverse fields (e.g. logistics, tax consultancy, the auto industry, real estate, law or healthcare). Throughout the two week job shadowings, students gain a unique insight into the structure of a company, undertake tasks independently and will pragmatically use the skills acquired in the Business English Class.
During their stay in the United States students will be placed in a host family, which will make it possible for them to experience the American culture, not only in a business environment, but also in a private setting. The fact that so many participants from previous classes now study International Business domestically and abroad proves how successful and indicatory these job shadowings have been.
The program was set up by Mr. Riemer (who serves as the program director up to this day) and Mr. Carsten Kümpers (KümpersFinanz AG). Today, the program works in close cooperation with the German American Cultural Foundation. They are “a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and preserving German language and culture in the southeastern United States, and to supporting institutions with a similar goal” (cf. www.gac-foundation.org).
